With so many sites and scenes packed in a small island, you could be riding the waves at dawn and sipping tea on a mountain top by evening. From sun-drenched beach holiday to adventure in the wild – there is so much to see and experience here. And everything is so affordable here.
Food is always fresh
Sri Lanka is a food lovers paradise – the reason for this are many, we can tell you that. For one, the locals like their food fresh, hot and spicy (don’t say we didn’t warn you) – not a hard thing really, considering that everything is local grown and easily available. Exotic fruits are in plenty, so is the fish. In fact the love for sea food is so strong that there is a restaurant run by two former cricketers that specialists in crab.
Have wen mentioned hoppers yet? Well, this versatile local dish can be found everywhere, is sumptuous and pairs well with everything – meats or fish and is also served with eggs!
The country is teeming with wildlife – you can just as easily dive with blue whales in season or watch spinner dolphins leap about in Kalpitiya or watch elephants in the wild. And of course, since Sri Lanka has the biggest concentration of leopards in the world, you can easily spot one too at Yala national park, along with sloth bears and buffalo.
The trains are impossibly scenic
If there is one thing that you should do here is to take a train journey. Especially the route from Colombo to Jaffna – truly a mind boggling experience.
Secluded and stunning, the beaches in Sri Lanka are something else! The sands are white and clean, the waves – oh the waves – if you love riding the waves or even diving, then you are in the right place.
We told you – Sri Lanka is a undiscovered paradise of opportunities.
Rocks and caves
Yes, caves and rocks are just as fascinating as mountains and seas, we assure you. For example, the Sigiriya, an abandoned palace (its ruins are almost entirely eradicated) at the top of a soaring, gargantuan bolder. if you brave the steep and narroe stairway, you will be rewarded with some spectacular views, not to mention traces of ancient frescoes still visible on some walls, and two lion’s paws, hewn from the rock and dating from the 5th century, are a unique design feature placed at the base of the final stairwell.
The Dambulla Buddha are another must see attractions and contains caves filled with Buddha statues, cave paintings and are amazingly atmospheric.
